Donna’s #REQUIEMSTORY
Donna Dermond, Alto
Being in An African American Requiem means many things to me. To have a voice in the pursuit of social justice is very meaningful and empowering. Performing An African American Requiem is something real we can do to take a stand as well as make commentary on so many essential ideas and issues.
Just the act of singing lifts me. I know the audience will also be lifted. I love the idea of singing with people whom I might never have met without An African American Requiem. I treasure the connections. And we all know the rush, the joy making music gives.
Helping present Damien's work is important. His vision and voice have touched me many times. Performing this piece allows me to show my love and respect for him, and I hope the performance communicates my personal commitment to end injustice.
